Magnus is older than he was before

Some how, in the last three months, I have slacked off in regards to this blog. When Mina was a baby I made an effort to take a monthly picture next to a sign. Sorry, Magnus.
In the time since his 6 month check up several things have happened. Luckily, most are good things.
Early in December Magnus' first tooth made its appearance. The next tooth broke soon after so Magnus went from no teeth to two teeth almost overnight.
Magnus celebrated his first Christmas by almost pulling an all nighter. It was exhausting.
I tried to take a cute picture of the kids in front of the tree, post presents. I got this instead:

It was a nice, snowy first Christmas for Magnus.

On January 2nd, Magnus started crawling. He had it mastered soon after.
His first attempt consisted off flinging his arms and legs while propelling himself forward. I'm so glad I caught it on film.

Magnus and Mina shared a cold which meant sleepless nights and clingy kids. I'm grateful they have been mostly healthy, it could have been a lot worse.
Mina dragged Magnus back into his room while shouting, "Come back in, baby boy!"
She calls him a variety of names including:
Mag-gus
Baby boy
Baby brother
Babe
Mags

It's pretty adorable.

His nine month stats:
Head circumference: 17 3/4"
Length: 27 1/4"
Weight: 18 lbs 12 oz

He wears mainly 6-12 month clothes with  some 6 month sized items. He and Mina wear size 3 diapers.

He has two teeth with two more on the horizon.

He has moved on from crawling to creeping as well as cruising the furniture.

He eats anything and everything! We never had to be as careful with Mina but Magnus puts everything in his mouth!

Magnus is six months old!

Magnus' first Thanksgiving coincided with his 6 month birthday. Little did we know that we would spend the day in the same hospital where he was born. James woke up early Tuesday morning with a pain in his stomach.  The pain subsided a little over the next day but got significantly worse by Thanksgiving morning. He decided to go to a local clinic to get it checked out but it wasn't open due to the holiday.  He called my uncle, Steve, to ask for his medical opinion.  Steve came over and talked to James about his pain.  In the end he recommended going to the ER to rule out something serious. I was trying to figure out what to do with the kids, especially since Magnus nurses and doesn't take a bottle.  At all. I was feeling really flustered and Steve offered to take James up to McKay while I took Mina to my parent's house.  I was really grateful!

While James got processed at the hospital, I took Mina to my Mom and Dad's house. Brent and Melanie were headed to Bountiful for our family dinner, the same dinner we were planning on attending.  They dropped off their contribution and then drove to my parent's house to pick up me and Magnus.  By the time we got to the hospital, James was in surgery.  His white blood cell count was high enough that they opted not to do a scan and just proceed to surgery.
James sent me this before he went in for surgery
We didn't have to wait too long before he was in recovery and then in a hospital room.  After that we waited for James to wake up and decide if he wanted to stay overnight or come home.

I am so grateful that I have such wonderful in-laws! They stayed into the evening after I needed to leave to put the kids to bed.  James has really great parents!

The next day Mina and I started to decorate the house for Christmas.  I couldn't reach the box for the Christmas tree so we waited to set that up until later.
Magnus had his six month check up the following Monday.  He is healthy and doing great!
His six month stats:
Height: 26 1/4"
Weight: 17 lbs 13 oz
Head circumference: 17 1/4"

He wears size 6 month clothes and just moved in to size 3 diapers.  He and Mina wear the same size!

We have also started solids.

I don't think he is a fan.

Five Months!

One of the downsides of not owning a bathroom scale is that you can't randomly weigh your kids. Magnus and Mina were feeling very similar weight-wise so we weighed them when we were visiting my parents. I was very surprised to see that Magnus was almost 17 1/2 lbs at five months old. That feeling of surprise was blown away when Mina weighed in at 24 lbs! Our miniature girl is growing!  But, back to Magnus...
At five months old...
Magnus weighs 17 1/2 pounds and is approximately 26 inches long. Wiggly kids are really tough to measure!

Magnus wears 3-6 and 6 month clothes. His 3 month pajamas fit but they are very short in the arm. He wears size 2 diapers.
He sometimes sleeps through the night, otherwise he will wake up once to eat.  Bedtime is between 8:00 and 9:00 with a final wake up around 8:30.

We haven't started Magnus on solid food yet but we will soon. He seemed really interested in eating dinner last night!

He is starting to get the hang of sitting up, he might have it down by next month!
Here is Magnus with his cousin Sammy. Thanks to genetics, this will probably be the only time Magnus is taller than Sammy!
Magnus' hair has started to grow, it's so golden! I'm excited to see what color it settles on, especially because he was so dark at birth.
Here is a comparison shot of cousin Kate and Magnus. They are 4 1/2 months apart. She will probably be taller than him as well. Sorry kid, your parents aren't tall.
We love our happy little guy! He is the sweetest!

4 Months Old!

In a highly unusual move, I am writing about Magnus' 4 month-iversary near the actual date. Shocking.
This little guy is growing up so fast and he has learned so many things. He rolls from stomach to back easily. He is close to rolling from back to stomach. I'm not excited for that milestone because he is still swaddled at night.
Magnus had his 4 month check up today and he is doing really well!

He weighs in at 15 pounds 12 ounces.

He is 24 3/4 inches long.

He nurses for 15-20 minutes every three hours or so. Sometimes his middle of the night feeding lasts longer, he sleep eats.

Magnus wears 3 month sized clothes with a few lingering 0-3 month sized pants, onesies and pajamas. He has a few 3-6 month items that fit really well.

He wears size 2 diapers, while Mina wears size 3.

Magnus laughs and coos; especially when he is tickled. His armpits and chin are especially ticklish.

For Family Home Evening we walked to the park. I wore Magnus in the Ergo:
and James played with Mina. She loved every minute of it!
James had fun too!
Happy Four Months Magnus!

One Month!

Admittedly, this post is late by over a month. I didn't take a picture with a sign the way I did with Mina. Now that Magnus is two months old I think that ship may have sailed.

By the time Magnus was a month old he was already bursting out of his newborn sized clothes. He had moved on to 0-3 sized clothes and size 1 diapers.

He would wake up twice at night to eat and he would eat every three hours during the day.
He started to show his personality and for his sake I hope he is patient. After all, he has Mina for a big sister:
He was given a name and a blessing on July 6th by his Dad. We are so lucky to have James in our lives!
Magnus' blessing outfit was based on a vintage pattern I picked up at a Relief Society activity. I altered the size as well as turning the shirt into a onesie.
I used cotton sateen for the shirt/onesie and seersucker for the overalls.
We love our little guy!

11 Months!

Mina turned one today and I realized I have really slacked on this whole monthly update thing. Here are some pictures I took when she was 11 months old.
She was NOT interested in posing for a picture.
I tried distracting her with a mirror but she was more interested in eating it.
Or holding it up so I could see it.
Then she tried to eat the camera.
 It was all very funny.
 Then she walked away.
This adorable little romper is the same design as the romper she wore home from the hospital.

I was lucky enough to receive two versions, one in newborn size and another in 9 month size.
It all goes by way too fast.
